Photojournalistic Style

It’s about the captured expression, connecting with every aspect of the environment and telling the truest story of the entire day.
Accurate story telling is carried out best when we are listening and attune to the environment. Being a photographer that documents moments effectively requires an openness that listens and connects. That connection allows the journalist at Selah to invite ourselves in to the situation and remain aware of all happenings. We realize that a wedding ceremony is one of the biggest day’s of many people’s lives, we at Selah are there to help the families remember the things that are beyond what the couples can see.
We realize that stories have many points of contact. The groom is full of anticipation as his bride is walking down the isle but often the story is told in the clenching of his fists or his posture as he catches his breath upon first glance of his bride. Journalism is about more than the words “I DO.” Stories are interrelated and connected. In an emotive environment people display reactions that develops from someone or something. As a journalist, we must observe beyond the main subject and watch for those “someones or somethings.”
The journalists at Selah tend to resemble a wedding all balled up. Our lead professional photographer Jackie says, “I could cry and laugh in the same moment, I am a hopeful romantic passionate about change and relationship…and the weddings never get old. Though every bride and groom approach their wedding day with the same idea, every story is so different.”
